Ready-to-run home NAS and lab server built on a Lenovo ThinkCentre Tiny M920Q (powered by its 65W PSU), i5-8500T, 16GB RAM, 250GB NVMe, Intel UHD 630 iGPU, LSI 9207-8i HBA in IT mode, 4x 3TB enterprise SAS drives. Housed in a custom 3D-printed 8-bay enclosure (4 bays populated, 4 open for expansion) with SAS backplane, cooled by x2 120mm fans, and powered by a dedicated built-in 300W power supply.
Runs Proxmox 9.2 with two VMs pre-configured:
- TrueNAS SCALE with LSI 9207-8i HBA in IT mode, 4x 3TB enterprise SAS drives in a RAIDZ1 pool — ~8TB usable
- Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS VM ready for Docker containers
-Ubuntu 22.04 LTS cloud-init template pre-configured — spin up new VMs in seconds
Includes a custom 3D-printed enclosure with built-in 8-bay drive bay (4 pre-populated), SAS backplane, dedicated PSU with relay for automatic drive sequencing.
Compact enough to sit on a shelf or in a media cabinet.
Just plug in a network cable and start using it.
Note:
Proxmox OS, VM storage, and templates all reside on a dedicated 250GB NVMe — the 8TB NAS pool is fully separate, running on 4x 3TB SAS drives in RAIDZ1 via HBA passthrough.
All 4 drives SMART verified — zero defects, zero uncorrected errors with low usage for their class of enterprise drive.
Drive bays accepts both SATA and SAS drives.
Perfect for:
- Home media server (Plex, Jellyfin) with Intel UHD 630 hardware transcoding — no CPU overhead
