I’m looking to connect with like minded musicians to form a band to primarily focus on playing Sixties British Invasion, Nuggets Garage rock, Mod, Folk Rock, and the music these genres inspired, Power Pop.

I play bass and rhythm guitar (tend to prefer bass), and can sing both lead and harmony within my lower tenor-upper baritone range. I have 20+ years as a semi-professional (I kept my day job) gigging musician, with some recording experience. I’m in the North end of Nanaimo.

I have played enough 70’s-90’s “Classic Rock” to last several lifetimes, and so I’m not really looking to play that kind of music anymore. I’m looking for like minded souls who love short, tightly constructed songs with lots of hooks and harmonies, and loud, clean, jangly guitars. Not just the hits, but deep cuts as well.

For some folks, this could be described as The Best Music You’ve (probably) Never Heard.

I’m looking for a fun jam to start, and if the chemistry is there, perhaps more formal rehearsals with an eye towards paying gigs. I have pro gear, so would be quite prepared for that eventuality.

For those not familiar with the term, here is a primer on Power Pop:

Power Pop is NOT the same as Pop Punk (Blink 182, Green Day, Sum 41)

Here are some of the Sixties artists I’d love to play:

The Hollies
The Searchers
The Who (pre-Tommy)
The Rolling Stones (pre-Satanic Majesties)
The Byrds (pre- Sweethearts of the Rodeo)
The Kinks (pre-Village Green)
The Yardbirds (Jeff Beck era)
The Action
The Monkees
One Hit Wonders such as those found on the Nuggets box set
and, of course, The Beatles

As for Power Pop, here are some of the artists I love:

Big Star
Badfinger
Todd Rundgren
Flaming Groovies
The Rubinoos
Wings
Marshall Crenshaw
Myracle Brah (especially “Life On Planet Eartsnop”)
The Beat (Paul Collins’ band)
the Smithereens (first LP)
SLOAN!
and the current saviors of Rock & Roll, The Lemon Twigs!

Having a keyboard player (essential sounds: Fender Rhodes, Vox Continental, Hammond B3), would open the door to the repertoires of the following artists:

The Animals
The Zombies
Small Faces
Manfred Mann
Dave Clark Five
The Young Rascals
Teenage Fanclub

Having female vocals would open further possibilities, including:

Dusty Springfield
Sharon Tandy (google her!)
Lulu
Girl Groups
Nikki & the Corvettes
Pearl Harbor & The Explosions
early Blondie

Thanks for reading this far; If you love this style of music or any of the artists listed, please contact me! All ages and genders welcome! The only requirement is a passion for this kind of music. I can provide more details on my experience and examples of my music when we chat.
