This guidebook describes mineral, rock, and fossil occurrences at collecting localities along the Trans Canada Highway and side routes from La Ronge, Saskatchewan and Thompson, Manitoba. The collecting sites include mines, quarries, pits, rock outcrops road cuts, and shorelines.
Booklet originally published in 1972, describing mineral, rock and fossil occurrences between La Ronge, Saskatchewan and Thompson, Manitoba. Directions to each of the occurrences are given, designed for use with provincial road maps. A brief geological history is given, including a listing of minerals to be found at each place, the history of the deposit and a description of the rocks and references.

In the1960s, Geological Survey of Canada mineralogist Ann Sabina was tasked with developing guidebooks on rock and mineral collecting in Canada to address the growing public interest in geology. The result was an enduring Survey classic.
In 1964, Sabina, using existing literature, developed three volumes in the series Rock and Mineral Collecting in Canada, which covered mineral localities in different regions of Canada.
